Startup Weekend Delaware Winners: Movie Monkee!!
We had three great days of pitching, strategizing, collaborating, building, testing, and presenting at Startup Weekend Delaware. In total, nine projects were worked over the course of the weekend, and one winner emerged on Sunday night: Movee Monkee!
Congrats to Casey, Nikki, Tim, Tyler, Rahul, and Peng on a job well done. They did a fantastic job. Movee Monkee helps movie theaters fill their seats. Hotels, airlines, and sports stadiums have all implemented yield optimization, but movie theaters are living in the past. Movee Monkee is here to change that.
I sat in with the judges and watched them deliberate, discuss, and debate over the nine teams and the products they built. They all agreed that the projects overall, were excellent. They were impressed with the level of work that all put forth. It wasn’t easy for them.
Also, we’d like to thank the second place team, who built Kurbi. Kurbi is a web application that makes it easy for people living with MS to track their physical activity progress, manage their routines & programs, and share their progress with friends and family. Congrats to Matt, Wes, and Sonny!
The winning team received:
- two hours of legal consulting from Morgan Lewis
- two hours of coaching from The Pitch Doctor
- one hour of business strategy coaching from J. Anthony Miguez
- a $200 credit for Amazon Web Services
- a copy of Lean Startup, by Eric Ries, for each member of the team.
We’ll be posting the final presentation videos shortly.
1680 Hours of Work Later…
The teams have been hard at work for the past three days brainstorming, validating, programming, designing, and prepping in order to demo their product to a room full of people and a panel of judges. Here are the nine teams presenting tonight:
- Movee Monkee: We help movie theaters fill their seats. Hotels, airlines, and sports stadiums have all implemented yield optimization, but movie theaters are living in the past. We’re here to change that.
- Relief Match: We are making disaster relief more effective. We are building a set of mobile and web tools to connect resources and charities to the people who need them. Faster delivery, better coordination between providers, and quicker relief to those in the greatest need.
- CoFundus: We are allowing people to post their ideas to better society so that people can donate to each person’s cause/project.
- CrowdStitch: We are a standardized, geo-located micro-networking mobile site for events.
- NoteGlue: Stick it to your memory. Remember what you read.
- Kurbi
standbyme: web application that makes it easy for people living with MS to track their physical activity progress, manage their routines & programs, and share their progress with friends and family. - MyWishlist: Gifting is hard. Wishlists are stupid.
- BrandBump: Brandbump is a unique platform for brand to brand collaboration across multiple social networks.
- Syllabus Speak: Syllabus Speak is an online tool that allows students to enter their syllabus information and receive updates as to when assignments are due. It will also enable students to receive messages days before a quiz or test, making the student more efficient and successful in the classroom.
We Kick Off Tonight!
We’re kicking things off tonight at Startup Weekend Delaware at 6PM. There’s plenty of free parking (and plenty of more convient paid parking): you can access a map here.
If you can’t participate in the weekend, the next best thing is to attend the Demo Night on Sunday. It’s where you get to see all the cool stuff teams built over the weekend. Project leaders will get up in front of the crowd and ask everyone to log into the website or download the app they built, and they’ll give a live, working demonstration. You’ll be amazed at what can get built in just 54 hours. You can get tickets for Sunday night’s event at Eventbrite.
You can follow all the action on Twitter by following the hashtag #swDE.
